A car park at Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre could soon make way for a new drive-thru Burger King restaurant. A planning application recently submitted to Medway Council seeks permission to build a drive-thru restaurant next to Hempstead Valley Drive, replacing an existing 36-space car park and an access ramp from the M&S multi-storey car park. If the plans are approved, the single-storey American fast food restaurant will include an internal seating area and a drive-thru facility. A total of 16 parking spaces is also proposed, which includes two short-stay waiting spaces and two disabled bays, in addition to 4 cycle spaces. DLG Architects, who prepared the design of the new drive-thru, said: "The design and siting of this new restaurant has been carefully considered and will add an additional facility to Hempstead Valley District Centre.
"It is hoped that this application will be supported and will add a positive benefit to Hempstead Valley and the neighbouring areas." To share your feedback on the plans, you can search MC/20/0028 on the Medway Planning Portal or visit this page.

Another drive thru, whatever for, when there is one down the road near Tesco. Why take away 36 parking spaces - bad enough at Christmas trying to find a space.

Oh dear, I think you need to read Jeanette's comment properly before commenting. " Another drive thru, whatever for, when there is one down the road near Tesco", no mention of Burger King..So maybe you should learn to read before commenting

I think this is a really good idea. They took the food court away, it meant there was nowhere to just grab a quick bite or drink. At least now there will be again.

I work there! It'll be a pain in the arse with kids, litter and wannabe gangsters in their cars. I'm not a supportive fan at all.

I think these takeaways need to pay the council a annual fee for the waste that's thrown from cars nearby. And or a system where the vehicle details are printed on the packaging so it can be traced back

There is no need for this. There are enough fast food joints in Medway. With the planned housing development just outside Hempstead, it's going to become a concrete jungle. There is also a rumour circulating that a cinema is planned - not sure where that would go, possibly instead of the additional new shops that were planned by Hempstead Valley some time ago. There also the matter of obesity in adults and kids, Medway Council would do well to encourage something more healthy that isnt going to lead to a whole pile of litter as well.

When you say encourage something more healthy, do you mean like a gym or something similar? Not quite sure what you mean by concrete jungle either, as the centre has nothing to do with the council, nor any housing developments?

Why are there virtually no healthy fast food drive thru chains?

Because nobody would go there. If there was money to be made, they would be everywhere like KFC and McD's.
