It has emerged that the former Carpetright store at Strood Retail Park is to be occupied by Boots.
However, it is not yet known when the health and beauty retailer will be moving in to the empty unit after Carpetright moved out in 2018. A planning application submitted in August this year requests permission from Medway Council to install a new glazed canopy over the store entrance and the introduction of two 'parent and child' car parking bays. The metal cladding around the shop will also be cleaned and redecorated to "upgrade the appearance" of the former Carpetright store, which will "provide long-term benefits overall". The existing Boots Pharmacy and Optician stores in Strood High Street remain open as usual for the time being. Boots has been approached for comment. Chatham town centre has fallen victim to yet another store closure, after the Age UK charity shop permanently shut its doors.
A notice on the shop window confirms the permanent closure and thanks customers for their "continued support over the years". The closure of the Age UK store joins a growing list of national names who have pulled out of Chatham only this year, including Debenhams in January, Buzz Bingo in July and GO Outdoors last month. The Co-op Bank in the Pentagon Shopping Centre is next to permanently shut in November later this year. |
