Over the past number of years, many passersby and local people may have noticed a rather odd colour on the externals of the Gala Bingo branch in Chatham town centre in Union Street. The externals of the premises have been 'soiled' for over five years, with a dark black smudge covering the light yellow stone cladding of the building. Future Chatham got in touch with Gala Bingo in February 2016 to request information regarding this issue, and whether any work was planned for this location in the future.
Scott Walker BSc (Hons), Regional Maintenance Manager South at Gala Bingo, responded to our enquiry revealing that they were aware of the soiled externals. He informed us that "last year they obtained a budget figure of £4k to clean the externals." This issue has been an eyesore for a decade to date, and creates a bad impression of the town centre for visitors and road users. It has also generated the assumption that the company did not mantain the building, while it is expected that premises should be of a high-quality as part of the regeneration of the town in the future. No further confirmation was revealed to when the 'black smudge' will be cleaned from the externals of the Gala Bingo branch in Chatham, although the news has been welcomed and we look forward to the work to take place soon. |
