It has emerged that a rectangular plot of land on the north side of Chatham Hill is up for auction. Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), a commercial property consultancy, recently listed the vacant land adjoining 425 High Street on their website. Currently, the site of 0.12 acres (485.64 sq m) is occupied by JCDecaux featuring two advertising billboards, bordered by a bank of overgrown vegetation and an electricity substation. UPDATE 09/05/17: Lambert Smith Hampton revealed on their website that the plot of land was successfully sold for £140,000 at the auction event. Local community group, Arches Local, had previously included this location as part of plans for the regeneration of the Luton Arches area. It was recognised as a potential site for the relocation of the Driver Fountain and undergo public realm improvements. Speaking out about the news, a spokesperson for Arches Local said: "It will unfortunately put plans to work in partnership regenerating it [the land] on hold. "We wait and see if it is sold and if it is, who purchases it and what are their plans. "We will be still pursuing positive regeneration of that area and hope we are all part of the conversation in the future."
