The historic heart of health in Medway for over |
years |
Future Chatham and community arts organisation Creatabot have teamed up to digitally share historical information about St. Bartholomew's Hospital - once Britain's oldest surviving hospital that cared for the people of Medway for over 900 years until its closure in 2016.
As part of our project, we're also collecting memories from people who worked or received care in the hospital, including those who lived in the residential quarters. It's hoped that as these stories are collected it inspires some creative responses through different forms of artwork to what is simply referred to locally as ‘St. Bart's’.

This project is a micro-commission for the High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ) Cultural Programme pilot led by Medway Council, funded by Historic England and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and supported by Arts Council England.
HSHAZ is a Medway Council-run project covering the area between Star Hill in Rochester to Sun Pier in Chatham. It is part of a national programme funded by Historic England, working with local people and partners through grant funding to help breathe new life into high streets that are rich in heritage and full of promise. Their work will help unlock the potential of the local area and make them more attractive to residents, businesses, tourists and investors.
