Hobbycraft has revealed that its first Medway store will open next month. The arts and craft retailer will welcome customers to its new store at Strood Retail Park on Wednesday, 6 October. This will be followed by a grand opening event three days later on Saturday, 9 October from 9am, with special offers and activities, including free goody bags to the first 100 customers. The retailer is moving into a unit previously occupied by Carpetright, which closed in 2018 and was later confirmed to become a large Boots store - although these plans never progressed. Workers have recently been spotted painting the external façade of the new Hobbycraft branch and fitting the shop inside, which was announced by the company in April this year. Hobbycraft says the store will offer customers a wide range of crafting products and will also have a dedicated Custom Crafting area, a space that introduces the digital personalisation Cricut tool to customers. This space will also allow customers to try out products and crafting techniques. A total of 18 new jobs will be created in the local area.
Store manager James Alcock said: “After a tough year for many, we are really looking forward to opening the doors to our Rochester store and sharing our passion for arts and crafts with the local community. "We have seen more people than ever take up crafting during the COVID-19 pandemic and we want to encourage locals to come down to their new store and shop with us safely. "We look forward to providing Rochester customers with the ultimate retail experience, combined with fantastic crafting products at great prices.” The store will be open Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9am to 7pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Since launching in 1995, Hobbycraft has grown to become the UK's largest arts and craft retailer, selling more than 25,000 products for creative activities. Its closest store to Medway is currently in Maidstone. Comments are closed.
