First launching on March 14, 2015, Future Chatham has been operating now for one whole year - and we have grown very succesfully during that time. We have grown to become the hub for regeneration information regarding the rejuvanation works in Chatham, and an efficient online platform for people to share their feedback and suggestions. Chatham is in major need of regeneration to transform it as the ideal place for people to want to live, educate, work and visit. We have worked with and supported local organisations, as well as larger national companies, and the local authority to take action in our town - and together we have achieved some significant progress over the past year. Future Chatham has been in connection with Arches Local, for example, to support their work to improve the Luton Arches area, as well as discussing opportunities and ideas. We have also communicated with local councillors to discuss issues that are a concern for residents, and have shared your suggestions with regeneration bosses at Medway Council, most of which will be developed further and brought to reality.
One of our major achievements during the past year has been kick-starting the regeneration project at the Luton Arches in the outskirts of the town centre. Our team raised concerns over the appearance of the railway bridges with rail infrastructure company Network Rail in September 2015, encouraging them to upgrade the detoriating metal guttering to a new plastic guttering system. After a site visit and further inspections, Network Rail accordingly commenced guttering replacement works in mid-November, establishing the first early steps of the regeneration scheme at the Luton Arches. Although these improvements may seem minor, they have made a huge impact for the future of the railway viaducts, ensuring that the production of more 'white muck' will no longer occur. We have also focused on local-related issues, including litter and fly-tipping. These two environmental issues are a big problem that Chatham and Medway likewise as a whole faces, and it costs the local authority a huge amount of money to remove. Our team have been reporting cases of litter and fly-tipping that we have spotted to support Medway Council's work to crack down on these issues, and we have spoken to local people on Twitter regarding steps that it can be prevented in the future. We will continue to work with the local authority and residents to tackle litter and fly-tipping in our town and support plans to clean up Chatham to make it a better place for everyone. Future Chatham would like to thank everyone that has been in touch with us, and we are very proud of everything that we have achieved so far. We do indeed hope that the next year ahead will be even more successful for us, and we will be continuing efforts to rejuvanate Chatham. Thank you very much, and a Happy Birthday to our online platform! Comments are closed.
