It has emerged that the Debenhams department store in Chatham High Street will be shutting its doors for the final time on Wednesday, 15 January.
The closure was first revealed back in April 2019, when it was understood that Chatham's store will be one of 21 other locations across the country to be axed as part of cost-cutting measures to make the business "fit for the future". Hailed as the only remaining "decent" flagship store in Chatham by locals, Debenhams has held a presence in the High Street since April 2005 when it acquired the former Allders department store, later refurbishing the building in July of that year, according to The Retail Bulletin. It has not yet emerged what the plans are for the soon-to-be vacant building, nor how many jobs will be lost. The news of the final date for Chatham's Debenhams closure comes just days after Future Chatham revealed the town's Bonmarché clothing store is also expected to close this year. 2/1/2020 20:14:50

It is a shame, but think this is an expensive shop for Chatham.
