A global organisation providing tailor-made, flexible care at home for the elderly has opened its first office in Medway. Home Instead is the latest business to join Chatham High Street, offering a variety of award-winning support services to people in their own home to the area and parts of Gravesham. These could range from companionship, house help, shopping and personal care. Home Instead also specialises in dementia and end of life care. Home Instead has a network of highly-trained and compassionate caregivers, who are a team of local individuals providing personal home care that is comfortable and tailored to the needs of the client.
At least 50 new jobs will be created at the branch now that it has opened its doors, joining over 250 branches across the UK as part of the global franchise. Home Instead Medway director and owner Henry Iwunze said that he was "glad to be part of the High Street". He previously worked in the NHS for over 15 years, having started his career as mental health care nurse across different hospital settings before moving into team leadership and ward management roles. Henry has also served as a support worker for over three years, working with older adults in both residential and domiciliary care settings. Care at home is widely recognised as one of the safest options for elderly people, ensuring their independence is maintained in a familiar environment, while reducing the risk of infection and benefitting from one-to-one support. For more information about its available support services, visit the Home Instead Medway website or visit the office at 113 High Street, Chatham. A popular multi-cuisine restaurant in Chatham High Street is undergoing a refurbishment ready for its long-awaited reopening. Spoon World Buffet and Bar has been closed since March last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, leading to concerns for its long-term survival. However, bosses at the restaurant have now confirmed that it is to benefit from a refurbishment in preparation to welcome back customers. The exact reopening date for the restaurant is yet to be announced, although it will not be this month.
In a social media post, a spokesperson said: "We will be refurbishing Spoon Chatham for a few months and as such will not be able to open during May 2021. "Please be patient with us and the restaurant will reopen looking fresher and we shall meet again to serve you better." Bosses at the self-service buffet restaurant anticipated to reopen it in September last year, but table service legislation and rising infection rates had "knocked us back" in their plans. Spoon World Buffet and Bar specialises in Chinese, Indian, sushi, teppanyaki and roast grill dishes among several others in its offering. An award-winning gym operator is to open a new 'state-of-the-art' fitness centre in Chatham, making it the company's first location in Kent. JD Gyms, part of the JD Sports group, is preparing to welcome customers to its Chatham branch for the first time. Featuring the industry’s very best fitness equipment, the gym will also offer large free weights zones, a sprint and prowler track, saunas and studios. The studios will play host to more than 300 classes a month, all of which are included with membership. As part of its offering, a 'JD Burn' area will be introduced for high intensity, bootcamp style fitness classes exclusive to JD Gyms. A statement on its website said: "When launched, JD Gyms Chatham will be a state-of-the-art facility.
"JD Gyms Chatham will give you a truly cutting edge fitness experience at an incredibly affordable price." However, JD Gyms was unable to comment on the exact opening date or location of its Chatham branch at this time. The first 200 members can sign up to benefit from an exclusive offer of £5 for the first month and no contract. Having first launched in 2014, JD Gyms now operates more than 70 gyms across the country, many of which are in town and city centres. It opened 20 new gyms in the last month alone in a bid to enlarge its presence in the low cost fitness market, investing an average of £1.5 million per site. An Edinburgh Woollen Mill concession based at Chatham Dockside Outlet Centre has permanently closed.
The retailer, which sells mid-price knitwear and other clothing to older shoppers, did not reopen its section following the easing of restrictions on non-essential retail last month. It occupied part of the existing Peacocks store, which has now repurposed the vacant space for its own products. A statement on the shopfront read: "Edinburgh Woollen Mill is no longer available in this store. "We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your continued custom." The nearest Edinburgh Woollen Mill store is now located at Millbrook Garden Centre in Gravesend. Edinburgh Woollen Mill first launched at Chatham Dockside Outlet Centre in June 2017. |
