High Street clothing retailer Bonmarché could be closing at least 30 stores nationwide in the coming weeks, putting its Chatham store at risk.
Amid a potential bid by another clothing retailer, Peacocks, to rescue Bonmarché from administration, it has been earmarked that 30 "under-performing and unsustainable" stores may close as early as 11 December, leading to a loss of around 240 jobs. Retail news platform Retail Gazette reported that the clothing chain's 285 remaining stores will continue to trade as usual, although the future of these locations still remains uncertain going forward - and it is yet to be confirmed whether the branch in Chatham High Street near TK Maxx will be affected. Bonmarché collapsed into administration during the middle of October this year, having issued a series of profit warnings during what continues to be a difficult trading environment for retailers across the UK. Future Chatham has contacted Bonmarché for further comment to confirm whether the store in Chatham is one of the 30 locations earmarked to close. |
