As part of Medway Council's programme of annual highway improvements, Newnham Street in Chatham will be closed on 1 October 2018 for 1 day between 7am and 7pm to enable carriageway resurfacing works. A full road closure will be enforced from the junction with Magpie Hall Road to outside 25 Newnham Street, with on-street car parking suspended throughout the duration of the works. Local access to residential properties will be maintained at all times. In a letter to residents, Jonathan Abel, Assistant Engineer at Medway Council, stated: "In making the decision as to when to carry out the work, various options were assessed and the Traffic Manager agreed that the safest and most appropriate time was daytime. In order to undertake the work, a full road closure is required. "Resurfacing works are by their nature noisy and it would be expected that higher levels of noise will be experienced during the works. Every effort will be made to keep the disturbance and site noise to a minimum but we do appreciate the inconvenience that this noise may cause." A local diversion will be enforced via Magpie Hall Road, Listmas Road, Castle Road, Luton Road and Bank Street, and vice versa. Picture Credit: Medway Council
